Sports Massage Therapy

Your appointment

At your appointment your massage therapist will take some information around your medical history and your daily activities, and carry out orthopaedic testing to assess any areas of complaint that you present with prior to your massage taking place.

Sports massage is deeper than a standard massage, with more pressure applied in a localised area. Techniques include myofascial release, neuromuscular techniques, muscle energy techniques, deep friction and trigger pointing.

If required we can refer you to your GP for further investigations.

Despite the name, sports massage is not just for people who play sports, it can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds, whether you work in a desk based role, you enjoy gardening or you are a parent running round after your little ones.

Benefits of sports massage

The deep tissue massage helps to prevent injuries, increase your range of motion, relieve muscular tension and reduce muscular pain. This makes it particularly helpful for those with an active or sporting lifestyle as it enables faster recovery from muscle fatigue by helping to remove toxins and breaks down adhesions from scar tissue in the muscle, tendons and ligaments.

Sports massage can benefit a wide variety of musculoskeletal issues including:

  • Medial epicondylitis (golfers elbow)

  • Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)

  • Rotator cuff injuries

  • Thoracic outlet syndrome

  • Piriformis syndrome

  • Reduced range of motion

  • Headaches from muscular tension
